Something about these historical sight signs always gets me. They always look completely trashed. The little paintings that someone has done keep up the trend of only letting us view history through a folk art filter. When you really thing about the hundreds of events that happened around Portland you begin to view the land differently. I look at the current sight and can't help think about the encounter here between the 200 Wabanaki people and the Brittish. Though this sign describes a peace treaty, current situations would suggest that only the Brittish felt this way. Many treaties of this time ended with the chief explaining to his people that he was sorry because he miss translated the contents of the treaty.
